Beautyful tortoise, we don't see much picture's from people who know they have sarda's.
Love to see a picture from the adults.

Sure

there are differenciation keys for each locality (eg. marginal scales of males)

but what is more significant is... to know WHERE the parents come.

I have a 2.2. breeding group, with no blood relation. Every tortoise come a different breeder from South of France, or Corsica. I made a lot of kilometers to buy them, but I am sure they are from Sardegna (thanks to the location of parents origin)

However, I mainly saw that people who sell marginated tortoises do no know where they came from. 4 or 5 years ago, I went to Terraristika Hamm in Germany, and asked EVERY marginated sellers in the Fair. Only 1 out of 10 knew about the animal locality... It is sad for captivity breeding.

In my opinion, every breeder should know the origin before attempting to have babies.

In North of Europe there are a lot of Testudo boettgeri (I have a couple too) and it would be much interesting to know to origin to breed only compatible animals...and keep the ancestor's line

I agree with you, its very good to breed with the animals and be sure to have the right sub-specie/bloodline szaqw szaqw

Welcome Sebastian ! In fact almost all  turtlebreeders cannot tell the real origin of their breeding animals and the question remains : happy to breed ,but... do we all breed hybrids..?
Even for wild populations, take T.marginata  , it is no t very clear if there are,or not, well defined subspecies ; by the way : how strict can we define the different forms of Testudo graeca..? ( I still  not use the name Eurotestudo > sorry Monsieur Bourg !)

ahah

You are right

I neaither use the "Eurotestudo" genus name

For me, Testudo hermanni will stay Testudo hermanni

The Graeca/ibera complex is very deep... So many variations...
