Zoals gekend zijn we nu in mauritius  en hebben al heel wat wijsheid bijgekregen, na het bezoek van park la vanille (waar onze dieren van komen ) gaan we overmorgen nog een eiland verkennen w&aar ze dieren uitgezet hebben op een koraaleiland, wat we veel vinden op de seychellen eilanden waar we binnenkort zitten

Een klein bezoekje brengen aan Ile aux Aigrettes 1 van dezer dagen.. Natuurreservaat natuurlijk met veel schildpadden.

"In 2000, as part of ongoing restoration work on Ile aux Aigrettes, MWF released 20 Aldabran tortoises on the island and by 2004 they were allowed to roam completely free. The aim was that the tortoises would eat the ebony fruit and then disperse the seeds around the island in their droppings, encouraging the spread of these rare trees naturally. This strategy has been successful, not just because ebony trees are being spread across the island, but also the seeds that they spread have been found to germinate more successfully because they had passed through the tortoise?s gut before being expelled. The tortoises are also breeding on the island and the baby tortoises are regularly taken from Ile aux Aigrettes to the Gerald Durrell Endemic Wildlife Sanctuary (GDEWS) where they are reared in safety until their release back into the wild."
Maar behalve schildpadden hebben ze op het eiland ook andere bedreigde soorten vogels en reptielen.

we gaan jullie ook alle foto's laten zien van park la vanille , maar we hebben een kleine 800 foto's en moeten een beetje selecteren , de dieren die we daar gezien hebben is eigelijk buiten onze verwachtingen , ook bultgroei hoe het komt, welk eten , strange, en temperaturen en luchtvochtigheid , veelal waar wij onwetend zijn van deze diersoort.

Wij hebben info verzameld ook voor de seychellen, en het is beter van hier te vliegen, maar voor we seychellen aandoen zullen we langs rodrigues gaan , waar ook vele dieren zitten , hopelijk kunnen we van Mahe naar aldabra vliegen.

nu binnen 2 dagen naar het eiland waar ooit de cylindraspis gezeten hebben , waar we ook het museum gaan bezoeken , het is een koraaleiland!

het eiland kan je enkel bezoeken op reservatie, het is niet gemakkelijk om dit te bezoeken

Aldabra is met de boot, voor het vliegtuig is het voor de wetenschappers, ik hoop reaktie te krijgen van de wetenschappers gelijk Justin Gerlach

Jammer Elke had heel erg graag willen kijken maar ik krijg de melding dat de inhoud momenteel niet beschikbaar is.
Denk in ieder geval wel dat het een geweldige ervaring is geweest.

een paar opkweekplaatsen , de dieren dat je nu ziet zijn van baby tot 7 jarig en iets later , de bedoeling is van deze te verkopen , en ja mensen ooit hebben onze dieren ook daar gezeten.

Echt genieten. De close-up's van de koppen zijn geweldig!
Een reis om niet te vergeten lijkt me, interessant om te zien waar je dieren vandaan komen.
Hoeveel heb je er? Die nemen vast heel wat ruimte in, zeker als ze straks zo groot worden.  :o'''''

hallo, Norma we hebben er 4 , maar eind volgend jaar komt er een dier bij die het geslacht al van gekend is , deze zal ongeveer 7 jaar zijn.
Ze worden daar gesext , de mensen van de zoo zeiden dat ze vroeger konden sexen , maar dat ze dan een kleine snede moeten maken.
En dat wil ik niet.

De dieren origineel komen niet echt van daar maar van het aldabra atol, maar deze zoo probeerd de dieren in stand te houden en kweken heel veel om uit te zetten , zo zie je er dan overal in mauritius , in parken enz .
Binnenkort foto's van een koraal eiland waar ze uitgezet zijn geweest, waar we dan ook een donatie hebben gedaan en een dier geadopteert voor een jaar , maar dit gaan we elk jaar verlengen.

Nieuwsgierig geworden naar dit uitgestorven dier ben ik op zoek gegaan.

Mauritius Fruit Bat
Pteropus niger

IUCN status: Endangered.

 Bats are the only mammals native to the Mascarene Islands. Once there were three fruit bat species, one is now extinct, leaving one species each on Mauritius (Pteropus niger) and Rodrigues (P. rodricensis). Once widespread over Mauritius, the Mauritius Fruit Bat population has decreased considerably due to habitat loss, cyclones and illegal sport hunting. Although this bat became extinct on Reunion, where it was last recorded in 1790, the island has been recolonized by a handful of individuals over the last decade.

The Mauritius Fruit Bat currently exists in relatively high numbers. However, it recently faced a new and serious threat to its existence, when the Mauritian Government discussed the possibility of culling this species, despite its IUCN listing, in order to protect the interests of fruit farmers. MWF has provided scientific and management advice to the Government to convince them that plans to legalize culling could have catastrophic effects. In fact, the extent to which this fruit bat takes lychees in comparison to other fruit eaters (such as the Ring-necked Parakeet, Common Mynah, Red-whiskered Bulbul, and rats) has not been scientifically determined.

In 2009, a positive step was taken when the Government carried out a sensitization campaign for the protection of farmed fruit and promoted the use of nets to protect fruit from bats and birds, along with a grant scheme to purchase the nets, which was extended into 2010. We encourage the Government to continue with this scheme and to promote  the propagation of dwarf fruit trees which will improve fruit protection and harvesting.

 The most recent MWF survey by the National Parks and Conservation Service, in 2007, found that the minimum population size of the Mauritius Fruit Bat is around 25,000 individuals. This may initially seem quite a large number, but this fruit bat has just been uplisted from Vulnerable to Endangered by the IUCN, due to its reduced range, the continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat, and the impending threat of legalized culling.

Although there are no active projects on the Mauritius Fruit Bat currently, MWF does maintain two captive populations at the Gerald Durrell Endemic Wildlife Sanctuary (GDEWS) and on Ile aux Aigrettes, and closely follows the population figures to be able to take any conservation action if required.
